Sleep can help restore homeostasis, while chronic stress and pain act as “sleep thieves.”<br /><br />The lecture also highlights the role of anxiety, rumination, and the hippocampal network in amplifying pain perception, and offers practical strategies to reduce anxiety through structure, focus on the present, and making treatment steps predictable.<br /><br />Finally, the presentation emphasizes the dentist’s role in sleep restoration. The mouth is presented as a key interface with the CNS, autonomic nervous system, and limbic system, meaning dental care influences not just tissues and teeth, but trust, fear, anxiety, and healing. The overarching message is that improving sleep is one of the most effective ways to improve chronic pain outcomes.
