Overview
A panel of sleep medicine practitioners provide their insight on OAT and collaborative relationships with dentists. A better understanding of our medical colleague’s perspective on communication, combining therapies, objective testing and definitions of success prepare attendees to build mutually beneficial and satisfying partnerships.
Objectives
Upon completion of the webinar, participants will be able to:
  1. Understand the criteria medical providers use when prescribing OAT; 
  2. Describe pathways for collaborating with medical providers on combination therapy, calibration, verifying therapeutic efficacy and determining next steps for suboptimal outcomes; and
  3. Identify communication preferences and pitfalls and best practices for building relationships with medical providers. 
Target Audience
Dentists screening or treating patients with sleep-related breathing disorders.
Speaker Bios
Rena Holzer, MS, APRN, FNP-BC, AE-C is the senior Nurse Practitioner in the Sleep Division at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston MA, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and has been practicing for over 22 years. She is on faculty at a number of Nursing Schools in the Greater Boston area. Professional interests include health promotion, the care of patients with complex medical issues and patient education. Her sleep practice includes the treatment of obstructive and high loop gain apnea (complex apnea) in the medically complex patient. 


Jonathan Lown, MD is board certified in internal medicine, sleep medicine and lipidology, and is the Clinical Director at Delta Sleep Center of Long Island. Selected as a member of the national medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha in 1992, Dr. Lown graduated medical school, Magna Cum Laude in 1995. From 1995 through 1998 he completed his residency and internship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. In addition to private practice and frequent lecturing, Dr. Lown currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine for Stonybrook University’s Medical School. He is holds two Diplomate statuses with the American Board of Internal Medicine in Sleep Medicine as well as Internal Medicine. 


Joel Solis, MD is a board-certified family medicine physician in McAllen, TX. Dr. Solis graduated from University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood  Johnson Medical School in 1999 and has been in practice for 20 years. He completed a residency at  University of Texas Health Science. Dr. Solis also specializes in Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services. 


Edward M. Weaver, MD, MPH is a professor of otolaryngology, the chief of sleep surgery, and a co-director of the Sleep Center at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.  He is also a staff surgeon at the Seattle VA Medical Center.  He is board certified in otolaryngology and sleep medicine, and he practices a wide range of sleep apnea surgery.  He has an active clinical research program studying sleep apnea.
