This lecture provides an overview of AADSM recommendations for temporary oral appliances and clinical situations that may benefit from their use. Chair-side fitting of a typical temporary device is demonstrated with practical tips for best results. 

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to: 

• Become familiar with indications for temporary appliances used to treat snoring and obstructive sleep apnea
• Identify advantages, disadvantages and indications of various temporary appliances
• Understand the different materials and retention strategies to consider
• Demonstrate fitting techniques and discuss pearls to identify the best bite
• Consider temporary OA life expectancy and insurance coding limitations

Allen J. Davis, DMD attended Midwestern University in Arizona where he received his degree in 2015. Upon graduation, he entered service on Active-Duty in the Army and attended the Fort Campbell 12 month AEGD. Later, he completed a 2 year AEGD in Hawaii where he graduated with a Master's degree in Oral Biology. Currently, he is working towards an online Master's degree in orofacial pain from the University of Southern California.

Dr. Davis is board-certified with the American Board of General Dentistry (ABGD), is fellowshipped with the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) and is a Diplomate with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM). His professional memberships include the American Board of General Dentistry, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Academy of Sleep Medicine and American Academy of Orofacial Pain.
