Overview
Sudden cardiac death and heart failure have claimed more lives than most cancers combined. Untreated obstructive sleep apnea profoundly increases cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. During this recorded lecture, you will learn how collectively, we can “Bridge the Gap” to standardize advancements and knowledge in order to save lives, reduce overutilization of medical resources while improving overall health status outcomes.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this lecture, participants will be able to:
- Identify differences between cardiac events and current gaps in medical response failures;
- Strategize urgent and emergent access to the health care system;
- Understand a dental clinician’s role in improving all cardiac outcomes

Speaker Bio
Paul Nguyen, MD is a board-certified cardiologist. After graduating from medical school, he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Chicago. His dedication to higher education led him to continue pursuing his knowledge and training in medicine at the University of Missouri – Kansas City, where he furthered his expertise in Cardiovascular Medicine. From there, he attended the prestigious Mid-America Heart Institution in Kansas City and received his fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology (Heart Rhythm Disorders). In 2008, Dr. Nguyen founded Elite Cardiology, LLC, where he currently practices Cardiovascular Medicine. In correspondence with Elite Cardiology, Dr. Nguyen collectively works and consults with patients at Presence Health Mercy Hospital in Aurora, Presence St Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin, Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, and at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. In 2012, Dr. Nguyen and his wife, Dr. Rubina Nguyen, founded S.C.A.R.F., a non-profit organization in response to overwhelming need for public education and awareness of sudden cardiac arrest/death. The mission of S.C.A.R.F. is to raise public awareness about sudden cardiac death and empower the community, support cardiovascular research, and to educate the next generation as well.
