Overview
TMD is a polarizing condition, even among providers who treat it regularly.  Over the years, treatment strategies have changed significantly as new evidence for best practice continues to emerge.  Treatment philosophies still vary significantly across the dental profession in a manner disproportionate to other common health disorders.  This often leads to confusion, frustration, and in some cases unnecessarily high medical costs for TMD sufferers.  This webinar will provide a high-level overview of the progress that’s been made in TMD treatment to date and explore the current state of the field along with hurdles we continue to face.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the history of TMD treatment strategies and highlight the prevailing philosophies in practice today;
  • Consider the impact that substantially conflicting treatment approaches for the same diagnosis has on the profession and on the public; and
  • Review the current literature pertaining to modern TMD treatment approaches and examine the importance of a comprehensive, whole-person approach to care.
Target Audience
Dentists screening or treating patients with sleep-related breathing disorders.
Speaker Bio

Connor Peck, DDS, MS completed his dental training at Marquette University School of Dentistry. He then pursued a residency program at the University of Minnesota focusing on orofacial pain and dental sleep medicine. During this time, he gained extensive experience in orofacial pain management, including temporomandibular disorders (TMD), as well as the use of OAT to treat sleep-related breathing disorders. His professional interests include the diagnosis, management, and prevention of a number of conditions, including TMD, headaches, neuropathic pain and sleep bruxism. He understands the significant role that sleep plays in pain management, but perhaps more importantly on the overall health and quality of life of the individual and their loved ones. As such, a large percentage of his current practice in Wisconsin is devoted to dental sleep medicine. He is an advocate for non-invasive treatments and believes in a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to patient care.
