Overview
This recorded lecture summarizes recommendations of an AADSM task force to identify the therapeutic position of an oral appliance to manage sleep-disordered breathing.
Objectives

Upon completion of the lecture, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the process the task force used to develop recommendations to determine the therapeutic position of an oral appliance;
  2. List the strategies that clinicians may find useful in identifying the therapeutic position of an oral appliance; and
  3. Explain the reasons that some strategies were not deemed effective in determining the therapeutic position of an oral appliance
Target Audience
Dentists and team members treating patients with oral appliance therapy for sleep-related breathing disorders.
Speaker Bio

 

Rose Sheats, DMD, MPH, is a board-certified orthodontist with a Masters in Public Health. She retired in 2013 from her full-time academic position as the Graduate Orthodontic Program Director at the University of North Carolina. She served as a member of the AADSM Board of Directors and continues to promote the practice of dental sleep medicine through leadership positions and educational activities at the AADSM. Dr. Sheats is a passionate advocate for the practice of evidence-based dental sleep medicine and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Dental Sleep Medicine
