Overview
This recorded lecture reviews recent publications on the prevalence of sleep disordered breathing after stroke, sleep apnea and stroke recurrence risk, screening for sleep apnea after stroke, and impact of CPAP on stroke recovery.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this lecture, participants will be able to:
  1. Understand that sleep disordered breathing is prevalent after stroke; and
  2. Understand that sleep apnea screening is uncommon after stroke, but easy to use screening tools are available.

Dentists screening or treating patients with sleep-related breathing disorders.
Speaker Bio

Romy Hoque, MD, is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Emory University School of Medicine, and serves as Medical Director of the Emory Sleep Laboratory. He graduated magna cum laude with a BA in biological sciences from Columbia University and completed medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his neurology residency at Louisiana State University, and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Emory University.  He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in five areas: Neurology, Sleep Medicine, Epilepsy, Neuromuscular Medicine, and Clinical Neurophysiology. Dr. Hoque is a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and president of the Georgia Association of Sleep Professionals. He serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, for which he has received the Stuart Quan Award for Editorial Excellence. Dr. Hoque's research and academic interests span all areas of sleep medicine.
